This weekend, we held a traditional patrol camp to prepare for our week-long summer camp in Edinburgh. The Scouts set up their entire patrol sites and cooked all their meals over open fires, with only minimal guidance from the leaders. They did fantastically! We had training sessions on building gateways, using axes and knives, gadget-making, and bushcraft. Friday evening featured some wide games, and on Saturday evening we had a campfire with other groups on site, followed by a movie in the marquee— a first for us! 🎬
The weather at Lapwing Lodge was particularly challenging, with heavy rain and high winds throughout the weekend, but the Scouts should be proud of their achievements despite the conditions. We decided to scale back the camp, and on Saturday evening, the patrols dismantled their sites, leaving only their sleeping tents. We loaded a few trailers and transported some equipment back to Troon. A few of the Patrol Leaders (PLs) and Assistant Patrol Leaders (APLs) offered to help unload in Troon, showcasing the excellent leadership demonstrated by the PLs throughout the weekend.
Now, we all feel much more prepared for summer camp. We've learned a lot, and the Scouts completed a significant amount of badge work over the weekend. Throughout the camp, the patrols competed against each other, earning points through inspections and challenges. In the end, the Green patrol, led by Sam, came out on top, but it was very close, with only a 10-point difference among the patrols.
This was one of our biggest camps of the year, requiring weeks of preparation from our volunteers. The week was filled with late evenings spent picking up minibuses from all over Ayrshire, setting up on site, and driving back and forth. Cleanup will continue for weeks, and then it's on to our next camp on Arran—hopefully with some better weather! ☀️
🎉 Tickets are now LIVE! 🎉 Get ready for a fantastic night at our Family Ceilidh — packed with music, dancing, games, and fun for all ages! Join us on 30th May 2026, 6–10 PM at Walker Hall, Troon and help support the 28th Ayrshire (Troon) Scouts on their exciting trip to Kandersteg in 2027 🇨🇭
Yesterday, we participated in the South West Scotland Scouts Monopoly challenge at Millport, working in teams to navigate the island and complete as many challenges as possible. A huge well done to everyone who took part and persevered through the wind and rain. Fortunately, the sun made occasional appearances ☀️
Our plans to camp on Barassie beach after the Monopoly challenge changed due to the day’s challenges. Instead, for our March Zodiac, we returned to our scout hall where we were joined by some of the explorers to cook dinner and enjoy a relaxed evening filled with games, pool, darts, paracord making, followed by a movie. We then spent the night outside in bivvys and tents. Taking down the tents in stormy weather this morning was challenging, but all the Scouts showed great resilience, managing to take them down and hang them up to dry.
As always, a big thank you to South Ayrshire Community Transport for providing us with four minibuses; they were kept very busy on Saturday transporting Scouts and leaders around the island.

22km along the River Ayr Way
Yesterday some Scouts and Explorers walked the second section of the River Ayr Way from Gadgirth bridge to Sorn. A very long but rewarding hike!
