150 members came together over the weekend for a group camp at a picturesque site adjacent to the river Ayr, where the landowner has kindly let us camp for over 20 years.
It’s not often that everyone in the group gets the chance to come together, so it was wonderful to seize this opportunity.
The weekend was packed with 18 different activities, the Scouts and Explorers even squeezed in an activity session on Friday evening before bed. This year, we had a new climbing tower in the field which proved to be very popular along with our much improved slippy slide. We had 3 birthdays to celebrate over the weekend so there was no shortage of cake! Thanks to all the parents that handed in home baking 😋
Making this camp happen was a mammoth task, with setup starting last Wednesday morning and around 10 volunteers on site all day and evening in the days that followed. We have to take everything with us, including drinking water (which is a lot for 150 people 😊). It took 19 journeys with trailers to transport everything. We are incredibly grateful to all the volunteers who made the camp possible, along with the following supporters:
- Troon Tug Co and Ayrshire IT for towing countless trailers to and from the site. - South West Scotland Scouts Services Team for their support with marquees and benches. - Bishopton Scout Group for bringing their climbing tower. - Instructors from Beam Outreach for delivering kayaking and paddleboard sessions. - John M. Patterson Plant Hire for supplying us with Hilux pickup trucks and trailers to move equipment in and out of the field. - UP4 Loo Hire - The catering team led by Alex, who single handily did the huge food shop for the camp.
Clear up will continue for the next few weeks!😆 ... See MoreSee Less
Rowallan Cubs had an amazing visit to Troon RNLI station, where they learned all about water safety and the lifesaving equipment used by RNLI crews. They even had the chance to sit aboard both the D class and Shannon class lifeboats.
A huge thank you to the dedicated volunteers and staff who gave up their time to share their knowledge and inspire us.
We are deeply saddened to hear about the passing of Alan Roy, a good friend of the 28th. Many of us have fond memories of time spent at Kandersteg with Alan and Trudy. In 2024, just weeks before our planned trip to Kandersteg, we needed to find another leader to join us, and Alan stepped in. His willingness to travel with us allowed the trip to go ahead, and his knowledge and experience were invaluable. Many of his tips and insights will continue to guide us on future trips.
Our thoughts are with Alan’s family and everyone at Kilwinning Scout Group during this difficult time. ... See MoreSee Less
