We are delighted to announce that a 24/7 Automated External Defibrillator – AED (or Public Access Defibrillator – PAD) has been installed at our Scout Hall.
A big thank you to all our members & parents for donating towards this worthwhile cause, as part of our annual “Smartie Tube” fundraising efforts. In previous years we have chosen other worthwhile charities for this money to be donated to (e.g. SAMH & Help for Heroes), however this year the money was spent on this life saving piece of equipment for our members, tenants and the whole community.
Our cabinet has been officially registered with Scottish Ambulance Service, who can give directions to the unit and provide access codes when required.
When someone suffers sudden cardiac arrest, prompt action by anyone nearby offers an increased chance of survival. An immediate 999 call for an ambulance and CPR is essential – most people who survive have needed a shock from a defibrillator to correct a chaotic heart rhythm.
The earlier the shock is given, the better the person’s chance of survival. They are simple to use and can be used effectively and safely by anyone – you DO NOT need any training – the process is simple and well explained by both the visual and verbal instructions.
The Leader Team will be conducting regular checks to make sure it remains in good working order.
We hope it is never used however we know it can be a vital piece of life saving equipment if the need arises.
